My Learning Journey
Throughout my participation in the Hackathon workshop and group presentation, I have experienced significant personal and professional growth. These experiences have not only deepened my understanding of marketing but also equipped me with practical skills essential for my future career.
One of the biggest challenges I faced during the Hackathon workshop was working under time constraints to develop a viable solution for Delmora, a jewellery brand. Generating innovative ideas while ensuring feasibility was difficult, especially with diverse perspectives within the team. However, through active discussion, compromise, and structured brainstorming, we successfully aligned our ideas and delivered a presentation.
The Hackathon workshop required strategic thinking and adaptability. My team looked at problems and solutions for Delmora within the 10k budget. We had to approach this by looking at the brand from the consumer’s perspective. We applied frameworks like SWOT analysis and the 4Ps of marketing to ensure our recommendations were practical and effective. We looked at the website and tweaks that could be made. The presentation taught me the importance of data-driven decision-making and the need to balance creativity with feasibility.
Through these experiences, I honed several employability skills, including critical thinking, communication, and adaptability. My team and I had to present for the first time together and in front of people and we learnt how to articulate our ideas persuasively. These skills will be valuable in my future marketing career, where strategic planning, teamwork, and effective communication play a crucial role in any brand's success.
Working with my peers on the presentation reinforced the power of teamwork. Everyone brought different strengths to the table—some excelled in research, while others were strong in design and presentation. This collaboration highlighted the importance of leveraging diverse skill sets and maintaining open communication to complete the presentation.
The Hackathon workshop provided valuable insights into real-world marketing by simulating the challenges Delmora face such as an emotional relationship with online customers. From market positioning to customer engagement, the experience mirrored industry scenarios, reinforcing the importance of strategic thinking, innovation, and adaptability in a competitive market.
Beyond technical skills, these workshops have shaped my perspective on marketing and problem-solving. I have become more confident in presenting ideas, thinking critically, and embracing feedback as an opportunity for growth.
The skills I have gained—strategic thinking, collaboration, and persuasive communication—are applicable beyond academia. Looking ahead, I aim to pursue a career in marketing strategy, leveraging these insights to drive brand success in the industry. This learning journey has solidified my passion for marketing and prepared me for the challenges ahead.
